On Thursday, August 17th at 4:00ish AM Joe and I found out just how loving and faithful God is to us. He had been running on so little sleep lately as he had been trying to fill in for 2 drivers he lost at work. He had been driving various routes while also trying to interview and hire two drivers to fill the shoes of the ones who left. That morning he lost control of the semi truck and trailer. In just a fraction of a second, his truck hit the dirt and it pulled him toward the wooded area just off the freeway.
As he tried to regain control of such an enormous, heavy, and fast-moving vehicle, his truck plowed through bushes, shrubs, and trees. While in the thick of it for 200 feet he couldn't see anything as he had tree branches and bushes covering his truck up to the top of the trailer. He just kept trying to keep control and steer it as best he could. The ride was very bumpy, loud and scary as he took down trees and as those trees took parts of his truck with them. Then all of a sudden the ride became smooth again, and he was able to stop. He got out of the truck and after clearning all of the brush and tree branches off his windshield so he could actually see something, he found he had stopped, miraculously, back on the shoulder of the freeway safely.
Now here is the really neat thing....another driver of his went by that same spot today and said a few things that sent chills up our spines. First of all, he said he was amazed Joe didn't roll the truck. The embankment Joe traveled down was steep enough that he was very blessed that it didn't roll. He also said you could see the trees and other smaller bushes that were toppled over from Joe running into and over them. Finally, he said you could see the tracks where the truck left the road, HOWEVER, he couldn't find any tracks that showed how he got back onto the shoulder of the freeway!
With Joe not being able to see, traveling in the dark with tree branches and bushes all over the front of the truck to block his view, and not being able to control an out of control semi truck and trailer, and yet still land safely back onto the shoulder (not into traffice mind you!) without even making tracks says to us that God had his hand on Joe and the truck.
We are hoping to post pics of the truck and maybe the accident scene soon....as a testimony to God's protection over us :)
