As we look back over this past year, it is truly amazing how the Lord really did carry us. We moved here after Joe's small company in WA was bought out and we had to find a job rather quickly to keep the adoption in place.
He worked for the new family owned business for 7 months before they forced him to quit...for no reason (later we found out the poor management got canned and even the person who took over for Joe also got fired). While he was sad and worried to lose the job, he was also thankful because that meant we could try our hand at owning our own business full time.
He had been working in furniture repair and inspections in Washington on a VERY part time basis. We had always thought it would be wonderful to do this full time, but we never knew if we could ever make it work.
So in May 2013 we were suddenly self employed. We prayed hard about whether the Lord was wanting us to go back to Washington. However, all of us felt (and read in scripture) that we were supposed to stay. That HE would work it out. HE would provide.
Gulp! So we told the claims company we did a wee bit of work for in WA that we were now ready for more work here in Hawaii. Wouldn't ya know it, but they had A TON of work for us. July, August, September, and on were jam packed with work.
When people move to Hawaii, the moving companies seem to lose, damage, and sometimes destroy their household and furniture items. We are hired to inspect the damaged items and then repair them if the family wants it. The insurance and moving company pay for us to do both.
I take in the claims paperwork and schedule the appts. Joe does the inspections and repairs. I then complete the reports, pics, and invoicing. And voila, we are self employed.
Funny thing is, we made more $ self employed than we would have made with him working full time in Honolulu.
All that to say is that we are BLESSED! The Lord heard our prayers for years about wanting to do this type of thing full time. For some reason He saw it fit to lead us here, the PERFECT place to do such work (55,000 active duty military personnel means there is more work here for us than any other state).
Not sure we know all the outcomes yet of this move and this new venture, but we are thankful and so happy and grateful for how HE has taken care of us, how HE has led and directed us, and how thankful I am that my hubby loves the Lord, follows His leading, and deisres to serve the Lord in all things.....even in his work.
