What a great day for an adoption fundraiser car wash! Today we decided to help our dear friends, the Myers, out with their car wash....an adoption fundraiser....which they put on in order to raise funds to bring their little boy home. We decided it would be a great way to once again teach our boys the importance of serving and helping others while also having a great time raising money for an orphan. We couldn't think of a better way to spend our Sunday afternoon than helping this wonderful family who have become such good friends.
The boys had a tough time deciding which job was their most favorite: washing the cars or holding the signs luring the drivers in. I know which one was my favorite: holding the signs. I have a grand time making eye contact with drivers, pleading for their help, pointing the way to our car wash, and getting them to smile even if they don't join us. Basically, I am good at making a complete fool of myself....but it worked!
Before we started I just simply prayed that God would bring the people and the cars to wash. He totally did! We had at least one or two cars in the washing bay the whole time....for our 3 hour stretch. When we did have a line with people waiting, a few even decided to forgo their car wash and simply donate to the cause. God blessed the whole thing! The earned just over $500 for three hours worth of work.
Once we got home we just kept saying how wonderful it was to help them. Knowing we are having our own car wash fundraiser very soon, we also talked about what we learned about how to host a really good car wash fundraiser. Low and behold there was a knock at the door. Our friends who were the ones we helped today dropped by for a visit.....a VERY GENEROUS visit. They gave us 1/2 the proceeds from the car wash! We just couldn't stop saying no because we sooo didn't want to receive it. We wanted them to have all the proceeds because they need the money much sooner than we do. However, being so full of faith and love and generosity, they said they wanted us to have it. Talk about humbling....
So it ended up being a blessing in disguise....little did we know that our day would actually be spent raising funds for both of our orphans waiting for us. Little did Collin know that the $2.50 he put in towards their adoption in the very beginning (a bit of his birthday money I might add) would come back right back at us in such a big extent. I think that was a blessing in disguise for him too.
Thanks for listening!

So awesome!!!! It's awesome (and humbling) when God's people act!!!!
What are your pointers for hosting a good car wash? We are going to have one in June... and I need pointers. I think the last car wash I was apart of was in high school (a loooooooooong time ago :)
Kelli,
Pointers? Well, I would say have lots of signs saying this is an adoption fundraiser, support an orphan, help us bring life to an orphan, etc. Have a few people draw folks in with the signs. We found it good to have a really busy location....and have lots of good volunteers. We did this one from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM and raised just over $500.
