The next confirmation I received about adopting was this fall. It had been a few weeks since that baby girl clothes instance, and I remember feeling like, "We are crazy. God wouldn't want us to adopt. That would be like starting all over. This is just one of those things like wanting a new car or new house. It is just a flirtation. Surely the Lord wouldn't want this for our family. We can support others who are adopting."
Later that afternoon I took the boys to their swim lesson. Before walking back to the swim deck, I wanted to grab a magazine so I'd having something to read as I watched them frolic in the water. I chose a fashion magazine I hadn't seen before, and we were on our way to the back to get them ready to swim.
Once they kids were in the water, I went ahead and dove into the magazine. It was all fashion, which was fun to read. However toward the back of the magazine, all of a sudden there was this article from one of the editors all about how she adopted two little girls from Ethiopia....in a FASHION magazine!!!
I wept as I read about this gal and her journey to adoption. I remember in it she said something like, "No, I don't go on vacations or play golf or meet friends for tea anymore like my friends do. No, I don't get to have those quiet moments I always looked forward to once my kids moved out of the house. However, those are nothing compared to what I have and what I have gained in adopting my two girls."
I needed to hear that so badly that day. I read that, wept, and wondered if that was a sign from the Lord. It sure seemed like it. What are the chances that I would pick up a fashion magazine when I haven't ever picked up a magazine during their swim lessons, and in it on the very day I was feeling like God wasn't leading us in this direction there is an article all about that very thing reminding me that you give up a lot, but you get so much more back?
